Mt. Magazine Treffen – April 30 and May 1, 2016
White River folks should meet at Drake Field in south Fayetteville around 9:30 am. We will depart from there around 10am and take the back way to AR23 then on to Turner Bend Store for a short bathroom break around11:00. The group will depart Turner Bend Store by 11:30 and continue down the Pig Trail into Ozark, AR for lunch at Rivertowne BBQ (205 S 3rd St, Ozark, AR 72949) around 12:30. After lunch and a good stretch (there are some small shops to browse around the square in Ozark) we will depart Ozark around 2:00pm and arrive at Mt. Magazine around 3:00pm. Official check-in time at the hotel is 4:00pm so there will be time to explore the park and perhaps take a short hike beforehand.
The Group Reservation number for rooms at Mt. Magazine for the Mt. Magazine Treffen is 1771868. Everyone wanting to book a room forSaturday night April 30, 2016 at Mt. Magazine Lodge should call Lodge reservations at 877-665-6343. When you call to make to make your reservation be sure to give the clerk the Group Reservation number. Here are the room types available under our group block:
18 Standard rooms (no balcony) $158.00 per night plus tax
7 Deluxe rooms (with balcony) $178.00 per night plus tax
All available rooms (not including cabins) are blocked for us until April 15, 2016. After 4/15/16 all rooms that are not reserved will go back into general public availability and we cannot guarantee that rooms will be available. There are also cabins on site. Contact the lodge to determine availability, rates, and whether they will waive the two night minimum for cabin rentals. Once you book your room (but no later than 4/15/16) please send an email to Sharon Hays (firstname.lastname@example.org), the White River Region Secretary, and let her know how many are in your party and whether you prefer having a catered buffet or just ordering off the The Skycrest Restaurant menu so we can finalize dinner plans.
Dinner plans are still dependent on how many folks are actually going on the trip. Regardless, we will meet in the Bear’s Den room adjacent to the bar around 6:30 Saturday for dinner. This leaves plenty of time beforehand for a cocktail or three for those so inclined . If we want a catered buffet we will have to guarantee at least 50 guests. We can also order from the restaurant menu instead of having a buffet.
Breakfast Sunday is on your own but I hear The Skycrest Restaurant has a great breakfast. The plan is to depart Mt Magazine around 10am. Those that want to can head toward Ft. Smith/Van Buren via the back roads for a lunch stop TBD. From there I plan to head toward Fayetteville via AR59 North through the Ozark National Forest to close out a great weekend.
